Water levels in the Ganga river in Bihar are continuously rising, with forecasts indicating a further increase between September 5 and 8. Extremely severe flood conditions currently prevail at Gandhi Ghat and Pandarak in Patna. Six districts in the state have been identified as facing a severe flood threat. The rising pressure from the Ganga is causing a backwater effect in the Son, Punpun, Gandak, and Kosi rivers. This is expected to worsen waterlogging and drainage problems in low-lying areas.
