At a social harmony rally (Samajik Samrasta Maharally) held in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar made a significant political statement, saying that Uttar Pradesh should be divided into four parts. He claimed that if a separate Purvanchal state were formed, his son would become the chief minister of that state. During the rally, Rajbhar also raised the demand for population-based representation within the 27 percent reservation given to Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He also targeted the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress, criticising all three parties. As of now, no new official decision or announcement regarding the division of Uttar Pradesh has been made by the government. Rajbhar's statement was a personal political claim made during his rally.
