A case of alleged mob beating leading to the death of a 45-year-old laborer, Ramjanam Vanvasi, has emerged from the Chaubeypur area of Varanasi. According to the allegations, he was suspected of stealing a tractor, following which a brick-kiln operator and his associates allegedly tied him to a tree and beat him brutally with sticks. About a week after Ramjanam's body was found, a video of the assault went viral on social media. Based on this video, police have arrested two accused in the case. It is not yet clear whether further investigation will reveal the involvement of additional individuals.
